MIT로부터 application 결과를 통보 받았습니다.



편지 내용을 잘 읽어보면, quasi-rejection이라는 것을 짐작할 수 있는데,



applicant의 마음을 상하지 않게 완곡하게 표현해 준 것 같습니다.



지금은 영어로 작문하기도 힘든데, 이런 고급스런 표현법은 언제 익힐 수



있을지....





Dear Mr. Kim,



Our Committee on Admissions has asked me to tell you that we have placed



your application (along with about fifty others) on a "Wait List" for



any openings which may occur between now and September.







I am sorry that it is not possible to predict the Committee''s final action;



however, in the past several years we have not been able to offer admission



to any students placed on the "Wait List". Therefore, I suggest that you



continue to develop alternative plans for continuing your graduate



education. The competition for the very limited number of openings in our



Department is quite intense, and we have already been forced to turn down



many applicants with very fine records.







I will notify you as soon as a final decision is reached, but it is



unlikely that any decision will be made about the "Wait List" until



mid-to-late May.
