한국과학기술한림원은 세계 정상급 석학들을 연사로 초빙하여 강연과 심층토론을 통해 국내 과학 기술 수준 향상을 도모하고 있습니다. 1996년 5월7일에 사업이 시작된 이래로 지금까지 다수의 노벨상 수상자를 포함하여 총 47인의 세계 정상급 석학들을 초빙하여 최신 과학기술 동향을 전파하고 국내 관련 분야와의 연계를 도모하였으며 이제 한림석학강연은 권위 있는 학술행사로 자리매김을 하였습니다.
우리 한림원은 과학기술부와 서울대학교 반도체공동연구소의 후원으로 러시아 Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute의 Center of Nanoheterostructure's Physics의 Scientific Director, 러시아한림원(Russian Academy of Sciences) 부원장 겸 러시아한림원 상트페테스부르그 지부 회장이며 한국과학기술한림원 외국인 회원인 Academician Zhores Alferov 박사를 초빙하여 ‘Heterostructure - New Type of Material for Information Technology and Energy Conversion’라는 주제로 제 48회 한림석학강연을 개최하고자 합니다. 이종접합구조를 이용한 고속 트랜지스터와 레이저 다이오드, 집적회로 등을 개발, 현대 정보기술의 토대를 마련하여 2000년 노벨 물리학상을 수상한 Alferov 교수의 이번 강연회에 많은 관심과 참석 부탁드립니다.

▣ Abstract
A short historical review of the physics and technology of the semiconductor heterostructures– new type of the materials for information technology and energy conversion is described.
Recent progress in quantum dot structures for lasers, LED’s, and heterostructure multijunction high efficient solar cells and future trends in the development of these new types of heterostructures are discussed.
