POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP ON HIGH-POWER FIBRE LASERS
Optoelectronics Research Centre
University of Southampton
United Kingdom
The Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) has an exciting opening for a postdoctoral research fellow, for research into next-generation high-power fibre lasers capable of generating 10 kW of average power. You will work in ORC’s renowned high-power fibre laser group (www.orc.soton.ac.uk/hpfl.html) in its top-class laboratories and with un-matched access to tailor-made fibres from ORC’s silica fibre fabrication group (www.orc.soton.ac.uk/silica.html). Your research will draw on, and contribute to, our first-rate know-how, experience, and track-record. You will be integrated fully into the group, and conduct research both independently and as a team member. You will have excellent opportunities to participate in many exciting activities in the open and rich research environment of the ORC, and will be able to assist in the supervision of Ph. D. students.
Come and join us at the ORC and lead the world towards higher-power fibre lasers!
Closing date: August 28 (to be confirmed)
Salary: From £23457 to £28850 per annum at Level 4 in our Education, Research and Enterprise Job Family (according to pay scale of 2005 – 2006)
Start date: October 1 2006 (tentatively)
Duration: 2 years, with excellent prospects for extension
Experimental experience is required in some of the following areas: Fibre lasers and amplifiers; optical waveguiding; fibre optics; fibre components; high-power lasers; design, development and characterisation of fibres and lasers; nonlinear fibre optics; high-power diode lasers; diode laser optics and fibre coupling.
