My presentation will cover, after brief introduction of Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories, our activities on photonic networking technologies which include high capacity trunk transmission systems, metro systems and enabling device/module technologies, and advanced photonic processing technologies.

Education: 1972 Bachelor of Electronics Engineering from University of Tokyo, Japan

1974 Master of Electronics Engineering from University of Tokyo, Japan

1984 Doctor of Electronics Engineering from University of Tokyo, Japan



He is a member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of Japan. He is serving as a director of IEICE, responsible for international coordination and publicity. He is also serving chair of Optical Communication System Research Committee of IEICE. He received Achievement Award from IEICE of Japan in 1998 by the experimental realization of optical terabit transmission.

He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He belongs to LEOS and COMSOC, and he served as an officer of COMSOC APC (Asian Pacific Committee), and a regional correspondents in Global Communications Newsletter in IEEE Communications Magazine. He served chair of General Affairs Committee of Optoelectronics and Communications Conference (OECC) 2004.
