Metasurfaces are of subwavelength photonic 'atoms', and they have numerous functionalities and potentials to modify electromagnetic signals. A novel metasurface for complex-amplitude modulations has been demonstrated. The metasurfaces are expected to pave the path for high quality spatial light modulators (SLMs) and overcome the limitations of conventional optical components for holography.
