내가 IEEE Fellow 될 때 추천서를 써 주셔서, 선정된 후 내가 감사 메일을 드렸는데 답신이 없더니, 건강이 안 좋으셨던 모양이다.

It is with deep personal regret that I inform you of Fumio Okano's death.
Fumio Okano passed away on 26 November 2013 in Kanagawa, Japan, at age 61.

Okano received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering
from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, in 1976, 1978, and 1996, respectively.
He joined Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Tokyo, Japan, in 1978.
Since 1981, he had been engaged in research on high-definition television
(HDTV) cameras, HDTV systems, 3D television, and extremely high resolution
imagery at NHK Science and Technology Research Laboratories. In 2011, he
moved to NHK Engineering System, Inc., where he worked as Managing Director
and Exective Research Engineer.

Okano will be remembered for his passion and intellect.
