I would ask you on a possibility of student participation to the International Workshop for Young Researchers under the global COE program "Center of Excellence for Founding Ambient Information Society Infrastructure" supported by Japanese MEXT.  The program aims at education as well as research on a specific theme related to "ambient information technologies."  I am one of the program representatives and have a task to promote the program.  The information of the program is shown in the below homepage:

The official description of the workshop is as follows:
The International Workshops for Young Researchers are small-scale workshops in cooperation with universities and research institutions both in and out-side-of Japan, targeting young researchers including doctoral students in this COE program.  The workshops will be held as camps or retreats, which will allow young researchers to discuss their research at length (over one hour per person), a format that allows deeper exchanges not possible with usual international meetings.  By making it possible to have intense discussions and exchanges among promising young researchers who seek to pioneer the future of their fields, it enables them to develop the abilities in design, communication, and management.  At the same time, by cultivating a network of researchers with our institute as the nucleus, we seek to develop our institute into a leading international center of education and research.

As the fourth workshop, we are seeking partners who understand the aims and cooperate it.  We expect that the partner would nominate one PhD course student of his/her institute and that student will take part in the workshop from the phase of planning and attend the workshop itself.  Communication for the arrangement and preparation is performed by e-mail.  The travel expense for the student is fully supported by the program.  The student is expected to have an experience of workshop management and international relationship.  To date, two students from China and Singapore join the program.  From  
our university three or four PhD course students are taking parts in.  
Their research areas include wireless communication, VLSI system design, multi-eye camera, and so on.  The date is two days in January  
2009 and the location is a lodging facility around Osaka.   The  
expected number of the attendees are at most twenty including our program staff.  Since the workshop is for the students, you have no obligation of attending.  Just nominate a suitable PhD course student.
